Description

TITLE: “Le Donne Comparse”
Medium size artwork, Stylised Portrait of women, 6.3 × 38.6 inches (16×98 cm), mixed technique on canvas, Siviglia 2025
In this evocative composition, the artist once again embraces a stylized portrayal of female figures, employing essential lines and fragmented forms that echo the visual vocabulary of Cubism. The color palette is intentionally restrained: bold brown contours define the faces, while soft washes of sunny yellow and delicate pale pink infuse the canvas with a quiet elegance and emotional nuance.
The painting unfolds as a visual narrative, progressing from left to right like a theatrical tableau or cinematic sequence. The first figure—a young woman—appears sorrowful, her hand resting gently on her cheek as silent tears fall. Beside her, another woman gazes with empathy, her expression imbued with concern and a desire to console. The third turns away, perhaps in judgment or emotional withdrawal. The fourth raises her hands, a gesture open to interpretation—an aborted embrace, a moment of hesitation. The fifth seems to offer a wave, a sign of farewell or solidarity. The sixth meets the viewer’s gaze directly, her eyes seeming to ask, “Did you see what happened? Seriously?” The final figure stands in quiet astonishment, her face marked by surprise, as if caught off guard by the unfolding emotion.
This intimate yet universal scene captures a spectrum of human response—grief, empathy, detachment, compassion, and reflection—within a single moment. Whether these women are friends, acquaintances, or simply coexisting in shared space, each reacts in her own way, yet none remains untouched. The painting becomes a choral meditation on emotional resonance, a testament to the complexity of human connection, where every face speaks, and every gesture holds meaning.
