TITLE: “Ritratto di Biondo Altoviti”

Renaissance portrait revisited in a contemporary style, 26.38 x 20.08 inches (67×51 cm), mixed media on canvas, Siviglia 2025

Raphael’s celebrated portrait of the young banker Bindo Altoviti is reimagined by contemporary artist Alessandro Siviglia in his distinctive Siviglian style, marked by bold colors and cubist forms. The title itself plays ironically on the sitter’s name: Bindo, with his long blond hair, becomes “Biondo Altoviti” through an almost Freudian slip, clearly setting this modern reinterpretation apart from the Renaissance original.

The turquoise background, brighter than Raphael’s dark green, infuses the scene with vitality. In Siviglia’s version, the figure’s clothing is enriched with dynamic shades of blue, light blue, and purple, adding depth and visual intensity.

This unique work builds a bridge between past and present—a dialogue spanning the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the contemporary world. It brings the spirit of Renaissance rebirth into modern homes, transforming tradition into a fresh and surprising visual language.
