TITLE: “James Senese”

Modern painting, portrait of a musician, 39.37 x 31.5 inches (100×80 cm), mixed media acrylic, spray and gold leaf on canvas, A. Siviglia 2026

A powerful portrait of James Senese, created in the typically expressive style of Siviglia. The work draws inspiration from an iconic photograph of the celebrated musician, depicted with his saxophone in hand against a vibrant red background. James Senese, born Gaetano Senese, was one of the undisputed protagonists of Neapolitan music: a saxophonist with an unmistakable timbre, as well as a singer, composer, and even actor. The son of a Neapolitan mother and an American soldier, he was born and raised in Naples. His father returned to the United States, leaving young Gaetano to be raised by his mother and grandfather, who shared his name. He later chose his father’s name, James, as his artistic identity — a name destined to become legendary, especially after his musical collaboration with Pino Daniele, which marked the beginning of his extraordinary career.

This portrait, created with a mixed technique combining acrylic, spray paint, and precious gold leaf, is a vibrant tribute to the great saxophonist and to the Neapolitan music of his era. The layered textures, bold color contrasts, and shimmering golden highlights capture Senese’s energy, strength, and profound soul, conveying all the expressive power that defined him.

Perfect for a jazz musician, a devoted admirer of James Senese, or for adding character to a music bar, recording studio, or creative space. A work that carries rhythm, history, and identity.
