Anima e Core

Description

Modern Landscape of Naples – Anima e Core
Hand‑painted acrylic artwork by Italian contemporary artist Alessandro Siviglia.

This vibrant and expressive painting offers a modern reinterpretation of the city of Naples, blending fantasy, history, folklore, and iconic characters into a single, powerful visual narrative. The bright, bold colors—signature elements of Siviglia’s style—infuse the scene with energy, emotion, and the unmistakable spirit of Naples.

The artwork features a rich ensemble of historical and legendary figures that shaped the cultural identity of the city:

• The Bourbons and the Angevins, symbols of Naples’ royal past
• Masaniello, captured in the moment of revolution as he gazes toward Mount Vesuvius
• Pulcinella, the timeless mask of Neapolitan irony and tradition
• Partenope, the founding siren, looking at her reflection and seeing Ulysses within it
• The “Scio Scio” hunchback, performing a traditional good‑luck ritual
• Totò, Massimo Troisi, and Eduardo De Filippo, the pillars of Neapolitan theatre
• Saint Januarius (San Gennaro), beloved protector of the city
• The Eight of Cups and the Ace of Clubs, symbols from Neapolitan card tradition
• Mount Vesuvius, dominating the center of the composition
• Two devils at the bottom, representing the darker side of the city, playing dice over the fate of Naples—yet ultimately powerless
• Castel dell’Ovo, depicted with a symbolic egg inside
• The Aragonese king, recalling the era when Naples flourished under his rule

Every detail is immersed in a dynamic composition where colors and shapes flow through the city like metaphors of life, culture, passion, and identity.
