As the protagonist of the work at the center of the painting we see the king, ruler of the middle world who continually exploits his people, a bit like some politicians who are in power.
The people are represented by the angels who with swords, sticks and chains imprison the evil king and condemn him to death. This episode reminds us of the French revolution and other similar events that have occurred in the past and will continue to occur.
The people, fed up with the behavior of the evil ruler, attack him, the king despite the people’s attacks, he is not at all worried about what is happening to him and he continues to drink people’s blood and eat his fill.
This painting showing a medieval fairytale scene is just doing what fairytales are supposed to. It’s telling a story, but actually showing and criticizing what’s going on in the real world.
