TITLE: “Il Re Cuore”

Modern artwork, 33.46 x 25.59 inches (85x65cm) mixed technique acrylic and spray on canvas, Siviglia 2025

This original painting by the international artist Alessandro Siviglia depicts the King of Hearts from the French deck, representing Charlemagne. This historical figure was the king of the Franks from 768, the king of the Lombards from 774, and the founder of the Carolingian Empire. On Christmas Day in the year 800, in the historic Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican, he was crowned Emperor of the Romans by Pope Leo III.

The King of Hearts is the most fascinating and mysterious card in the French deck, around which a legend has developed over the centuries. While the kings of the other suits clearly show their weapons, the King of Hearts holds his sword partially hidden behind his head, a position that can be interpreted as if he were about to stab his left temple. This detail has led to the name “Suicide King” and the legend that surrounds him.

This painting, created in a contemporary style, is framed with a red ornamental frame that echoes the color of the hearts and other details of the image. It is an ideal work of art to decorate the living room of a house, the office of an entrepreneur, or a magistrate. It also fits perfectly in the environment of a casino, for example.
