Description

modern colorful painting with Sicilian puppets on a light blue and green background showing a medieval battle on horseback with armed soldiers
“Il Teatrino dei Pupi” 39×47″ inches, mixed technique with acrylic and spray paint on canvas

TITLE: “Il Teatrino dei Pupi”

Modern colorful painting showing a scene of a medieval sword battle in a puppet theater typical of Sicilian culture and tradition. The background of the painting was made with sprays and represents the theatrical scene with intense and sunny colors such as blue, yellow, red and green which in turn represent the sky, the sun, the earth and the vegetation of the island. The puppets painted in the typical puppet armor with sword and shield are hanging on strings allowing the puppeteer to perform the battle. The shield of the soldier on horseback shows the trinacria, the famous symbol of Sicily shown also on the Sicilian flag whereas the other warrior holds a shield with a crescent moon on it representing a conqueror from the middle east who in history had often tried to ocupy Sicily.
