TITLE: “L’Abusata”
Modern artwork on canvas, 16,53×11,81 inches (42x30cm), artist Alessandro Siviglia
“L’Abusata” in English “The Abused” is a female nude, portrait of a woman in a contemporary cubist style hand painted with acrylic colors and oil on canvas by the Italian artist Alessandro Siviglia. The woman, beautiful with long blond hair, wears only a red pearl necklace and a flower in her hair. She seems like a normal, calm and serene girl but the title of the work suggests another reality. The painting condemns the abuse of women in all its forms, sexual, physical and psychological abuse. Normal, ordinary women, that might be mothers or sisters, friends or neighbors, who maybe out of fear or shame would not report the abuse. They might pretend nothing has happened, smile and try to live a “normal” life like everyone else. But the body language speaks for itself, the woman with her arms crossed in front of her has closed in on herself, she no longer trusts, she is no longer able to open up emotionally due to the abuse she has suffered.
A small painting, apparently a simple female nude, but actually it hides a profound message.
Ideal for the study of a psychotherapist. But also for those who fight for women’s rights, who defend them from defamations and prejudices that too often, despite being victims, are treated as if they were responsible for what has happened to them.
