Description

"Maria Crocefissa" large modern painting showing Mary, the mother of Jesus, at the cross. Interesting interpretation by young emerging artist Alessandro Siviglia. The body of the woman hanging at the cross is painted in black and white whereas the background is actually an abstract photograph.
“Maria Crocefissa” 59×39 inches verticale format (150x100cm), mixed technique acrylic and digital photograph on canvas, Siviglia 2021

TITLE: “Maria Crocefissa”

Modern artwork on canvas, 59×39 inches (150x100cm), artist Alessandro Siviglia

The background of this painting is an abstract photograph of a wall reproduced on canvas on which Seville painted Mary crucified with mainly black and white acrylic colors with a very bright gold halo. Maria, suffering, keeps her eyes closed and experiences the death of her son on her own skin.

A painting that brings the Madonna to our times, to our cities on our urban walls. As if it were a work of street art, however detached from the wall and brought onto the canvas. A contemporary, Sevillian-style semi-abstract religious motif.

“Maria Crocifissa” together with the other painting “Crocifisso Urbano” form a pair of paintings preferably exhibited together. Two large canvases that attract attention and convey Jesus’ love for humanity and Mary’s love for her Son. They are two works that showcase absolute compassion. The compassion of Christ who suffers on the cross supporting for all the suffering created by everyone’s sin and Mary who experiences the suffering of her child, because it is torture for any mother to have to see her child die in this cruel way.
