Sottopassaggio a Mariconda

Description

TITLE: “Sottopassaggio a Mariconda”

Modern artwork acrylic and oil on canvas, 39×39″ (100x100cm), artist Alessandro Siviglia

“Sottopassaggio a Mariconda” is modern painting in contemporary figurative style by Alessandro Siviglia. The artist from Italy born in ’82 depicts a childhood memory in this work. Siviglia grew up in Mariconda, a difficult neighborhood of Salerno, Italy at the time frequented by drug dealers and drug addicts as in this scene. Little Alessandro, in order to go to school, had to go through an underpass where heroin addicts hid in the dark to get a shot. There were strange characters that he still remembers, such as the guy who dressed as a woman with his rich boy friend who always dressed very elegantly. It was a time when heroin, as J-Ax also said in a recent interview, caused a massacre, putting the artist and his friends on guard against this destructive drug. A work that recalls the book by Christiane F.  or the film with Al Pacino “The Panic in the Needle Park“. Heroin has recently made a frightening comeback, because today’s generation of kids hasn’t seen the devastating consequences of consuming and becoming addicted to that cursed drug.

Today the underpass is gone and neither are the characters that were damned to a life in hell and an early death.
Siviglia, on the other hand, is grateful for not having taken such a path, because art saved him and kept him out of these dangerous circles.
